The CAF Champions League is the annual international club football competition run by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The top clubs from Africa’s football leagues are invited to participate in this competition, which is the premier club football competition on the continent and the equivalent to the UEFA Champions League.

The Confederation of African Football’s Champion’s League (which consists of 7 legs) makes up a combination of 41 international teams. It is, of course, run by the Confederation of African Football. The CAF Champion’s League is roughly equivalent to the UEFA Champions League, and is the top league of premiership football throughout Africa. While it is a prestigious league to win, it is not always the most efficient; it faces many problems in the areas of venues, structure, and scheduling. The league usually opens in January of each championship year and ends in around November, which conflicts with the other domestic premiership football leagues that begin around August and don’t finish their tournament grids until around May.

Soccer betting for football fans:

The Champion’s League is a knock-out based competition. Each tie of the tournament is played at home and away games to ensure fairness on the field. The Confederation of African Football ensures that the games don’t continue on for too long by holding the games in three different knockout stages: the preliminary stage, a 32-team first round, and then a 16-team second round. Soccer betting usually doesn’t pick up until 8 more teams are knocked out though, as that leaves only 8 teams to bet on.

An interesting piece of trivia is that, even though the Confederation of African Football Cup has been around since 1964, prize money was only recently introduced in 1997, with a winning purse of $1 million to the winning premiership football team, and $750,000 to the losing finalist. This, combined with a revitalised format for determining the winners, has earned them greater TV coverage and more sponsorship from across the entire continent!

They do not focus solely on African play though! This area of premiership football will soon be expanding outwards. As stated by Mark Gleeson “matches against strong European opposition” will soon take place, showing a strong indication to broaden the horizons of the Confederation of African Football. How this clash of teams will affect international relations and FIFA entrance is anybody’s guess, but football betting will most likely peak during these times of uncertain odds and raise potential for large profit gains.

So altogether, the Confederation of African Football has put together a wonderful tournament in which premiership football teams face off for the honour of the CAF Cup. While most of the teams are from Africa, the CAF is striving to pull in more international teams, and to provide hospitality to whomever may need it. Indeed, they are setting a wonderful example for the rest of the football world.
